about

This album is a collection of story songs. An unnamed fictional character is behind the compositions, and they begin to play just after hearing the events of the intro. The music is what their limited recording equipment captures; a final thought sent as a lone transmission into wherever.
A track breakdown: East is the start, traveling one direction, beginning simply. Resent comes in with bitterness at the first leg. West is a shorter attempt to return to where the story began. Salt is a bitter realization that the journey can't be undone once it's begun. Dandelion is a short, different, and positive turn for the character. Ownership is rain-like and soft, where the subject of the narrative attempts to take ownership of their place and direction. Grace is the shortest leg of the journey with ease and an inexact end.
A few inspirations for this project were Ben Johnston, Tim Hecker, John Cage, Silver Mt. Zion, and Harold Budd. Also, I had some Ryuichi Sakamoto and Tchaikovsky floating around in my head between sessions.
When I recorded this I tried to make the mechanical bits of the piano sound like another additional instrument. In normal mixes, the moving parts are neglected for purer tone, but this is mixed and recorded so that the sound of the instrument is completely naked; you can hear everything. It really doesn't even sound like a piano sometimes, and in a few songs, to bring this out even more, the strings are prepared with tape and pen caps.
The name of the project is for that rushing feeling of nostalgia for places which don't exist anymore. ex. a tree you grew up playing around which got torn out by a storm, a place that was a loud school cafeteria now a parking lot, a place that was a reliable restaurant now a gravel hole in the ground, etc.
A big thank you and shoutout to puguglyyo on twitter for the album art.
If this project moved you in any way i ask if you could share w/ friends etc. Thank you 🖤
